Your Computer
Station
Access to the computers and to AutoCAD requires a LOGIN process:
Username: jsmith (First initial of first name and
full last name
example)
Password: caddhello
Once logged in, press "ctrl + alt + delete" to
change your password. If you forget
your password, ask the instructor for help to re-set it.
You
will not be able to access AutoCAD until you have
LOG'ed IN.
Students will be assigned
to a workstation and all work is to be done in
your own working directory.
For back-up purposes,
you will be assigned a folder on our Server: Fermat. This folder can be accessed
by you from any computer in the room with your login and password.
BACK-UPS: Students are responsible for
backing up their files. The student folders on the
server
will be backed occasionally so make sure you copy your work
here as well as on the C: drive. Memory sticks and the internet
can also be used for backup purposes. (It is not recommended
that you run files from the memory stick due to the potential for damage
or lost files)

AutoCAD
We
will be using AutoCAD 2000 compliant software.
Many companies are still using earlier versions, such as R14.
There are considerations when moving data between different
older versions of AutoCAD.
Note: 2000 AutoCAD files are compatible
in a variety of ways:
2000, 2000i
& 2002
- Compatible
2004, 2005
& 2006 - Compatible
2006,
2007 &
2008 - Compatible (Menus: MNU/MNS vs. CUI)
We
will upgrade to
newer versions of
AutoCAD as the need
arises.
OPEN
LABS
There are specific classes assigned to all labs. Please ask for permission from the
current instructor before using a computer during after-class hours.

Operating System - Windows
XP
You
are not expected to have a complete understanding of computers and
Windows. We will review
the primary Windows techniques needed to operate AutoCAD.
Each
computer has MS-Office and AutoCAD software loaded and
configured. In some cases
there will also be other software loaded on the computers; AutoCAD LT,
Autodesk VIZ, Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Revit and Inventor. These will be
discussed when time permits.
Please note
that instruction material is protected by copyright and is provided for your
use only. Do not copy or
distribute the notes to others.
We
recommend that you research other books about AutoCAD as supplements to the course
material.

V.A.U.S.
The
Vancouver AutoCAD Users Society (VAUS) holds monthly meetings on the
first Wednesday of each month at B.C.I.T. in Burnaby. Attendance at the VAUS meeting
is optional.
We recommend checking them out, as they are a good networking
source for students and experienced users of CADD software.
One of the perks for
attending is that you will be included in
the occasional draws for free software.
Student versions of AutoCAD have been given away on occasion.
Browse to
www.vaus.org for more information.
While
not connected with VAUS, you may also wish to investigate the AutoCAD
Users Group International (AUGI) as a further resource to help you
master AutoCAD.
Browse to
www.augi.com for more information.
