C21  Student Conduct

Click HERE to open and print the form that confirms you have read and understood the policies. Sign and hand in the form to the instructor.

We follow all policies of Kwantlen University College, including withdrawal.  If you find that this is just not the course for you, contact both the instructor and the Admissions Department for the necessary forms.  You will receive a refund for all unused weeks.

Classroom activities will be modeled after working conditions typically found in an office.  Non-performance of assigned duties may generate a “performance contract”.  Non-compliance with the conditions of a “performance contract” may be cause for further corrective action, such as dismissal.

Please Note: If you are absent for 3 consecutive days and do not contact, via phone or email, a Drafting/CADD Technologies Instructor, you will be automatically withdrawn and will have to pay a penalty to re-enroll.

Sponsored?  Please let your instructor know who you would like us to talk to.  The Waiver/Release form has a section for this information.

Your Computer Station

Access to the computers and to AutoCAD requires a LOGIN process:

Username: jsmith  (First initial of first name and full last name
example)
Password: caddhello

Once logged in, press "ctrl + alt + delete" to change your password.  If you forget your password, ask the instructor for help to re-set it.

You will not be able to access AutoCAD until you have LOG'ed IN.

Students will be assigned to a workstation and all work is to be done in your own working directory.

For back-up purposes,
you will be assigned a folder on our Server: Fermat.  This folder can be accessed by you from any computer in the room with your login and password.

BACK-UPS: Students are responsible for backing up their files.  The student folders on the server will be backed occasionally so make sure you copy your work here as well as on the C: drive.  Memory sticks and the internet can also be used for backup purposes. (It is not recommended that you run files from the memory stick due to the potential for damage or lost files)

AutoCAD

We will be using AutoCAD 2000 compliant software.  Many companies are still using earlier versions, such as R14.  There are considerations when moving data between different older versions of AutoCAD.

Note: 2000 AutoCAD files are compatible in a variety of ways:

2000, 2000i & 2002 - Compatible

2004, 2005 & 2006 -  Compatible

2006, 2007 & 2008 - Compatible (Menus: MNU/MNS vs. CUI)

We will upgrade to newer versions of AutoCAD as the need arises

OPEN LABS

There are specific classes assigned to all labs.  Please ask for
permission from the current instructor before using a computer during after-class hours.

Course Materials

Course handout material will be presented in a variety of formats designed to increase your skills in a paper/paperless office environment.

Supplemental information on projects will be available from a variety of locations:

   1. Handouts from the instructor

  2. Electronic format on the Server

  3. Electronic format available on the Internet at www.kwantlencadd.com

  4. Cloverdale Campus Library

  5. Surrey Campus Library

You may purchase the classroom book shown below:

Madsen, Folkestad, Schertz,

Shulmaker, Stark, Turpin

*The above book is for mechanical drafting.  Please specify if you require the architectural drafting book.

Operating System - Windows XP

You are not expected to have a complete understanding of computers and Windows.  We will review the primary Windows techniques needed to operate AutoCAD.

Each computer has MS-Office and AutoCAD software loaded and configured.  In some cases there will also be other software loaded on the computers; AutoCAD LT, Autodesk VIZ, Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Revit and Inventor.  These will be discussed when time permits.

Please note that instruction material is protected by copyright and is provided for your use only.  Do not copy or distribute the notes to others.

We recommend that you research other books about AutoCAD as supplements to the course material.

Please be kind to your neighbours:

·        Cell phones should not be used in the classroom.  Please leave the classroom when using a cell phone and keep the ringer to "silent" or "vibrate".

·        Music should not be a “shared experience”.  Speakers are available for learning software purposes. You may use headphones in the lab connected to your own CD/MP3 player.

·        Loud or disruptive behaviour should be avoided.  Please use good judgment at all times.

·        We do allow food in the Lab but ask you to please be extremely cautious around the equipment.  Drinks are allowed only if in a covered container (please use the lids for coffee cups).

Campus Information

The Cloverdale Campus contains a Library and a Bookstore.  The Library will issue your student card with picture I.D.  Drop in to make the necessary arrangements.

Parking is available at the south end of the building.  Please note that these are PAY PARKING LOTS.  Imperial Parking does patrol and tow from these lots.  There may also be street parking available, depending on the time you arrive.

Campus Security is available for any emergencies or for evening escorts back to your car after 5:00 pm.

In the case of a heavy snowfall, or other problems, you can listen to the local radio for closures.

V.A.U.S.

The Vancouver AutoCAD Users Society (VAUS) holds monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at B.C.I.T. in Burnaby.  Attendance at the VAUS meeting is optional.  We recommend checking them out, as they are a good networking source for students and experienced users of CADD software.  One of the perks for attending is that you will be included in the occasional draws for free software.
Student versions of AutoCAD have been given away on occasion.  Browse to www.vaus.
org  for more information.

While not connected with VAUS, you may also wish to investigate the AutoCAD Users Group International (AUGI) as a further resource to help you master AutoCAD.  Browse to www.augi.com  for more information.
