Examples of Repurposing material

Repurposing presentation techniques

Attempting to keep up with technology can impose extra stress on presenting material. Students are expecting information faster, easier to digest and some degree of entertainment, thus the rise of “edutainment” events.  Striving to retain the primary focus on the educational portion of edutainment involves repurposing the material you have to new presentation methods.  Faced with tracing paper, pencil and marking pen sketches of a proposed Architectural Drafting project I needed to present the concept image of the end result: a small townhouse development.  I have scanned in the sketches and created a 3D Model (Actually combining previous student projects into one model) that has been rendered to highlight the relation of volumes.

Students can now see the desired end result from both traditional and “modern” techniques. These extremes are examples of what they could expect as direction in offices today as the digital revolution moves through design professions.

This is an example of an early concept sketch that might have been done just before starting the working drawings.

Some views of the "typical" unit. This is Unit 1, the northern most unit with one exterior wall.

This is the view from the North East.

The same unit from the other side:

And the "Kitchen" side:

Some other views will be added later.

Please note that this particular model used the linen closet on the bedroom level as a full height closet. Thus the funny "shed" on the roof deck.  What alternative can you come up with to not have the shed taking up space on the roof deck?

The Site is sloped, and one view of the shape of the site, using the "cardboard layer" approach looks like:

This is the view from the South East. The high side is the part along the lane. 3rd Ave is to the left and Maple St. runs from the corner to the right.
