* Kwantlen's Drafting Core is based on the Provincial Drafting Core as outlined below. We have added the Architectural 1 project to apply all the skills learned in the first 3 courses, and to demonstrate how a project is packaged in a "set" of drawings

The Provincial Drafting Core:

The Drafting profession has seen many changes in the way drawings are produced and utilized since the introduction of CAD. The Ministry of Advanced Education is aware that these changes have an impact on the training required in Drafting and Technology programs and have sponsored the Provincial Drafting Core Project in May 1999 to garner industry input and identify the skill-set needed by current Drafting graduates.

The project consisted of a one-day session attended by industry representatives from throughout B.C. and educators from all post-secondary institutions that offer design/drafting/technology programs. This group determined the core set of drafting and design skills required in all related disciplines. These skills, the Provincial Drafting Core, have been published on a provincial website and industry people can visit the site to validate the Core on an on-going basis by indicating if each skill is essential, desirable, or not-required in their industry. At that time participants may also indicate other skills that they feel need to be added to the Core. The Provincial Drafting Core, once validated, should be incorporated in all design and drafting programs in the province.
