1.  Identify Imperial sheet sizes
See textbook pages 83-85

All Imperial drawing sizes are multiples of the standard 8-1/2” x 11” sheet of paper. This ensures that when a drawing is folded down it will always fold down into the standard sheet size, and fit easily into a 9” x 12” envelope.

Metric Dimensions
(for reference)

Size A

8-1/2” x 11”

280 x 216

Size B

11” x 17”

432 x 280

Size C

17” x 22”

560 x 432

Size D

22” x 34”

864 x 560

Size E

34” x 44”

1118 x 864

Drawing numbers generally start with the sheet size.
For example:

Dwg. No. B-206-1257 would be on an
11” x 17” sheet.

Using the sheet size as part of the Drawing Number can help to locate a drawing in a busy office because it indicates how big the drawing is. A-size and B-size drawings are usually kept in filing cabinets. C-size drawings and larger are usually kept in large drawing drawers or drawing hangers.
